Computer Fixed

My computer died two weeks ago but is finally fixed. After a fair bit of research and help from my dad, the problem was determined to be incompatible RAM bars -- what fun! It was kind of weird being without my main computer for so long; but being at work all day and having the work laptop at home made it less urgent to fix it. Read More → ^ TOP

Computer Dead

My main computer died; bummer. I tried upgrading from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 and it froze in the middle. The OS is in some kind of bogus state and won't boot normally. I think that no actual data was lost, because I can go into recovery mode and convince the OS to mount the drives' contents, but for some reason they're not mounting automatically. Well, I've been meaning to install with a clean slate for a while, so I guess this is as good an occasion as any to do so. Too bad it'll take a few hours... Fortunately, I have more than enough networked storage space to back up all of my stuff, so if need be I can just zip up the entire hard drives and copy them.

I still have computers to use -- about four, to be precise ;) -- but it's annoying to not have the main one anymore. Meh. ^ TOP
