Seriously, who are they kidding -- translating ol' Shakes into l33t sp34k?? I'm all for the evolution of language (e.g. alright vs. all right) and the dynamic nature of English, but seriously, is reducing literature to truncated cell phone English really a good idea? Read More → ^ TOP

Ender's Game: the End?

(Warning: there might be spoilers in here if you haven't read the book)

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card has long been one of my favorite books, ever since I first read it when my Dad stuck it into my hands sometime before I was 10. It's a fascinating hero story, and obviously very appealing to the inner hero in all of us: the main character is a bullied, mistreated and unrecognized genius. The 'evil men' take advantage of him, yet he develops heroism on the "battle field" (the simulated training battles) and ends up leading humanity to glorious safety. (So they thought, at least.)
