Haircuts at Home![]() http://david.the-haleys.org/photos/2005-06-25-selfhaircut/ I think it's pretty good, if I do say so myself. The flash is rather harsh and highlights rather starkly the skin, thus betraying mistakes. One of the most prominent to me is on image 414: there's a small clump of hair not quite right over a small patch with not quite enough. Maybe I'll go fix that... In any case, as you can tell, my talents have vastly improved since my last adventures with the scissors in 1991! And besides, I needed a haircut - the long hair looked dopey, very dopey without the beard I thought - and I don't have the bread to pay for a haircut for the moment anyhow. (Bread is, of course, what you get when you leave your dough in the bank for a while.) ^ TOP Trying Tango, Splinting Shins, Money Madness![]() In other news my shins are busted up; it seems that my bright idea of running every night without giving myself a day off caught up with me. After googling for 'shin pain' and coming across many sites describing shin splints, that seems to be what I've got. Oh well. It hurt enough that I wasn't able to play frisbee today: I couldn't run much and after about 10 minutes it just hurt to stand and walk. Guess I'll be taking it easy for a day or two or three or... It was interesting to have to pay for both rent and health insurance at the same time. It's a darn good thing I've been working and it's also a darn good thing pay day was the day after I dropped off the checks! Paying bills stinks. Paying big bills is, frankly, putrid. :-) Although, I suppose I should look at the bright side: I'll have plenty of time to get intimately familiar with all that a few years hence. Oh, and one last thing. I got tired of having long hair (it was really long); it was looking pretty dopey especially after I shaved. On a whim of sorts I decided to cut my own hair, armed with a trusty pair of scissors and a Norelco. It looks pretty decent, if I do say so myself. Doing the back was interesting. One thing is for certain: my skills have greatly improved since the last time in 1991! :-) ^ TOP Shakin' and Quakin'![]() Just had a small earthquake. It was a little disconcerting at first since I was fidgeting, bouncing my knee, when suddenly it felt like the world was spinning. I was thinking to myself, "hmm, I wasn't fidgeting that much" and was confused for a second or two till I registered what was going on. Looking at the standing lamp swap back and forth helped, too. Nothing fell, though. Whee. That was exciting. Someday, California will go hang with Hawaii. (See: david.the-haleys.org/endofworld.swf. Funny, but parental advisory: some explicit 'lyrics'.) ^ TOP Close of a Chapter - Part 2![]() Now that I've covered classes, here are my plans for the summer. Read More → ^ TOP Close of a Chapter - Part 1![]() Another academic year just came to a close. Things went fairly well this year; grades were good, work was good, people were good. Got accepted as a Head Peer Academic Counsellor for next year, and got into the CS Honors program. Of course, the hard part is ahead of me - next year will undoubtedly prove to be most 'interesting' - but it should be good fun. I never did get around to posting on what I was up to this quarter. I took four courses: Read More → ^ TOP |
